NEW DELHI, India: British and Indian officials ended two days of talks but failed to agree on a proposed extradition treaty aimed mainly at Sikh freedom fighters living in Britain, a joint statement said.
The statement, released by the British High Commission (Embassy) here said, both countries had agreed to hold further discussions ‘on the issue which has cast a shadow on the Indo UK. Relation.‘
The talks began on Wednesday between British Foreign Office Junior Minister Timothy Renton
and Indian External Affairs Junior Minister, K. Natwar Singh.
The statement said Mr. Singh accepted Mr. Renton’s invitation to visit Britain to continue the talks at an early and mutually convenient date.
