GUWAHATI (PTI): Two ULFA detainees, held under Terrorist and Disruptive practices (Prevention) act, escaped from the Mangaidoi district jail August 4, according to official sources in Guwahati, capital of the north-eastern Indian state of Assam, Tuesday.
The two escapes, Montu Bora and Kuldeep Deka, escaped by scaling the high jail wall using bed sheets as ropes to haul themselves up after breaking open the cell windows.
The two had been nabbed by the army during Operation Rhino.
A massive manhunt was launched to apprehend them. The warden and jailor of the prison were suspended, inspector general of police D. Saikia said.
