The Chandigarh Police has solved nine cases of major robberies at various places in the city with the arrest of two Punjab Police constables, A team of the Criminal Investigation Agency (CIA) today nabbed the duo Rajwinder Singh and Gurdas Chand both constables in the Jalandhar police. The gang had created a fear in the minds of businessmen which led to the posting of additional personnel at various business centers in the city. A statement by CSR Reddy, SSP, said that a third accomplice constable Baljit Singh was already in police custody. He. Was posted at the residence of a senior Akali leader in his security detail and frequently met both Rajwinder and Gurdas.

Rajwinder Singh, the younger brother of Baljit Singh, was posted with Gurdas Chand at Bhog pur town in Jalandhar and used to visit the city frequently. During one of the visits Baljit suggested that they use the official vehicles and arms for committing robberies. There first target was Mr. Ashok Kumar, a commission agent at the vegetable market, Sector 26. The success of this plan in which they took Rs. five lakh and one kg of gold, tempted them to undertake other robberies. Mr. Reddy said that with their arrest the police had solved nine cases and some property had also been recovered. The accused were produced in court, which has remanded them to police custody up to October 22.
