NEW DELHI: Armed with guns and explosives, two “specially trained” Pakistani nationals came to Delhi to unleash mayhem, they, were Lo target big cities by planting bombs in congested markets and mixing poison in water tanks. Assuming fake identities and renting accommodations, Amjad Ali and Khalid Mehmood were on course to execute their “nefarious designs” under direction of Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence. The law, however, caught up with them on March 2, last year. And on Wednesday, additional sessions judge Shiv Narayan Dhingra sentenced the two to life imprisonment and an Rs2.5 lakh fine each under different sections of the Terrorist and Disruptive Activities (Prevention) Act. “They had come to India with the mission of killing innocent persons. They had specialized training in Pakistan in the use of bombs, rocket launchers and other devices, “the judge said. “They are mercenaries of death…their young age (they are in their 30s) is of no consideration…they deserve the. Harshest punishment, “Mr. Dhingra said. “Terrorists are not concerned with the justness or unjustness of their cause…most anyway work only for money or power. They don’t show mercy even to women and children,” he added. Mr. Dhingra was equally harsh on a Delhi resident, Chand Mian, who was sentenced to life imprisonment and a Rs. 50,000 fine.
