NEW YORK: With the flip of a remote control last night, film actor Amitabh Bachchan declared open a project to bring TV Asia to millions of Indian and other Asians viewers in North America.
“It’s indeed my great pleasure, ladies and gentlemen, to inaugurate TV Asia now””, Mr Bachchan told the audience, who came to the opening at New Work’s Helmsley Palace despite cold winds and snow in the wake of one of the worst blizzards this century.
Mr Bachchan briefly explained TV Asia’s experience in Europe and its foray now into the American market “After all if Cable News Network (CNN) can be seen in small towns of Asia, then surely TV Asia must be made available in towns like Los Angeles and New York.
With the click, the lights went out and the screen was filled with images straight from Bombay flick industry ranging from old classic to the latest releases.
“This is only a part of what we will be putting on the air,” one organizer said, adding that TV Asia aimed to bring home to 30 lakh Asians living in America glimpse of the world, they have left behind, through movies, serials, current affairs, music and dramas.
TY Asia would cater to immigrants from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, West Indies, Guyana and West Asia, a brochure said. On being asked if TV Asia would take its Cable show to India, considering that Hong Kong based Star TV is already beaming programs to Indian viewers.
