NEW DELHI: More than 75000 trucks tankers and carriers Monday went off the road disrupting the supply of vegetables petroleum products and other items to north Indian states to protest the imposition of toll tax by the Haryana government.

This was in response to an indefinite strike call given by the All-India motor transport congress.

While the wholesale vegetable market in Delhi which handles vegetable supplies to the northern states and union territories downed its shutters due to lack of supply the truckers’ strike adversely affected the supply of diesel and edible oil.

The Congress also threatened to withdraw the tankers supplying drinking water edible oil and petroleum products within the 48 hours if their demands including withdrawal of gulf surcharge on diesel were not met forthwith its representatives told a press conference here.
