NEW DELHI (PTI) Trucks began playing in most parts of Indias today except in a few states where truckers continued their strike whiles the all India motor: transport congress threatened to resume the agitation if their demands were not met within three months.

It may be recalled that the road transport operators of the country had-gone on a nationwide strike last Thursday demanding abolition of octroi tax on interstate freight movement.

Transporters in the states of Maharashtra Gujarat Haryana Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh were still on strike even though their representatives had suspended the stir on Monday after the government said their demands including abolition of octroi and “path kar (road tax) would be sympathetically considered

Haryana Rajasthan and U.P the truckers there had called a bandh because the state governments had not yet abolished octroi transport operators said here

A delegation of the AIMTC which had spearheaded the weeklong nation-wide stir met the union transport minister for surface transport Mr Jagdish Tytler and told him that they would convey the details of the governments stand on their demands to their affiliated units in the state’s official sources said.

The AIMTC said the surface transport ministry had sent a communication to them acceding to the main demands and added it had suspended the agitation for a period of three months.
