SRI NAGAR: Police burst tear gas shells and used lathis to disperse a mob which attacked a police station at Nauhetta locality after Friday prayers at Jama Masjid. The preliminary report said that the police fired in the air when a police officer was besieged in the course of the attack by the mob but there is no official confirmation of the report. The Friday congregation at Jama Masjid which was addressed by Mirwaz Maulvi Farooq, Chairman of the Awami Action Committee also offered Fatehia for those killed in the recent Rawalpindi arms dump blast. Earlier another group of the miscreants pelted stones on the Khalira Police Station but they dispersed after the lathi charge. Yesterday’s clashes remained confined mainly to downtown localities with the remaining parts of the city remaining largely peaceful. Shops and business establishments remained closed in parts of the city as an expression of sympathy for the victims of Pakistan blast.
