JAMMU: The entire Kashmir valley and parts of Jammu region Jan.8 observed complete strike in protest against the Sopore incidents in which more than SO persons were reportedly burnt.
According to reports reaching al the winter capital of the state here, people violated curfew restriction in Baramullah, Sopore and other towns and came out in the streets rising anti-India slogans.
A complete bandh was also observed at Doda, Bhaderwah and vishtwar towns and some parts of Jammu city against the alleged sense of excessive force in Sopore town after an exchange of fire between militants and BSF jawans.
Meanwhile, police cases have been registered against the crying BSF jawans. Another team of crime branch of the police, headed by Kirtan Singh, DIG, on Friday went to Srinagar to start an investigation into the incidents.
Relief and rehabilitation of the victims of the incidents continued on Friday. G.C. Saxena, Governor of J and K after his visit to Sopore on Thursday announced an excreta relief of Rs. One lakh each to the next of kin of the deceased persons. The relief for damaged property would be given to the affected population to the extent of 50% of the damage up to a maximum of Rs.one lakh. The victims would also be provided free rations for three months.
