TORONTO, Ont: The Sikhs of Ontario Canada celebrated Birth of the Khalsa (Baisakhi) at Gurdwara Sri Guru Singh Sabha MALTON MISSISUGA, with Nagar Kirtan in which 8,000 Sikh men, ‘women and children participated. The Sikh youngmen raised slogans of Sikh homeland Khalistan.
Guest speakers were S. Gian ‘Singh Sandhu. President of World Sikh Organization, Canada, Bhai Lakhmir Singh, President of International Sikh Youth Federation, Jathedar Talwinder Singh of Babbar Khalsa and Giani Abbad Khan (who gives Radio program on Sikh issues from Radio-Pakistan), All the speakers were honored with Saropas.
Mayor of Missisuga, Mrs. Hazel Maceullin represented the city of Missisuga. Mr. Clare West Chairman Metro Toronto Board of Commissions of police (who successfully steered the move to allow turbaned Sikhs to join Metro Police Force); Mr. McCormack (who represented the Chief of Police of Metro Toronto Police Force), Bob Pennock, MP. from Etobicack, and John Nunzeata, M.P. who visited India recently with Mr. Joe Clark, Minister of External Affairs ‘were guests of honor at the occasion, John Nunzeale spoke briefly about the Sikh problem. He also informed that they were not allowed to go to Punjab during their visit to India.
Kulwant Singh B.A. from Vancouver and Darshan Singh Saini represented the Khalistan Council.
