NEW DELHI: Although asset wise the Birlas top the 20 largest business houses in India, the Tatas top in terms of both turnover and profits before tax, the lower house of parliament was informed.
Federal industry minister Ajit Singh said that while the assets of Birla company in 1987-88 were Rs 55.6437 billion, its turnover was Rs 51.2169 billion and profits before tax amounted to Rs 1.5016 billion. On the other hand, Tata, with its assets valued at Rs 55.5856 billion in 1987-88, made a turnover of Rs 54.4222 billion and its profits before tax amounted to the tune of Rs 2.8053 billion.
