NEW DELHI: The Indian Express has come out with serious allegations of corruption at the highest level. The son of the chief of Central Bureau of Investigations (the equivalent of the FBI) has been receiving Rs 54 lakh from Reliance Industries which has been involved in massive irregularities. The headlines screamed “Mahesh Katre director of CBI protects the Amubanis, the Ambanis enrich him?”
An Express reporter posing as a client uncovered the clandestine connection. In the news recently has been the story of a scion of the Ambani family being arrested for conspiracy to murder Nusli Wadi, another big industrialist.
The central government sought to transfer the case to CBI but the Bombay High Court had granted a stay to the proceedings. The pressure to handover the case to CBI according to police sources had but one purpose to prevent the Bombay police from reaching persons in reliance higher than kirti Ambani to see that the case does Not escalate.
Two days prior to Kirti Ambani’s arrest on July 31, immediate Central intervention was sought to stop the Bombay police from proceeding in the matter.
