AMRITSAR: Election in the Punjab should be held only after solving the problem in the state, senior Akali Dal (Badal) leader and Sikh temple management committee (S.G.P.C) president Gurcharan Singh Tohra said Tuesday.

Elections held under “Bayonets” would not help solving the Punjab problem, Tohra told reporters here.

He said the new S.G.P.C executive, which held a meeting here on Monday, in a resolution,

Condemned deployment of troops and expressed fear that the situation in Punjab would become more complicated in years to come. He said the unanimous resolution described deployment of troops as “pouring salt on the wounds of the Sikhs” and elections held under the “umbrella of army could not be fair and free.”
