SUNAM: S.G.P.C. chief Gurcharan Singh Tohra said here the other day that while Prime Minister Narasimha Rao had vacated his chair and had set on the ground when a group of Hindu saints went to meet him in connection with the Rama Janmabhoomi issue, Sikh religious leaders in Punjab had been imprisoned. Addressing a gathering of village leaders, Tohra said that the incident clearly showed the communal bias of the Indian government against the Sikhs and in favor of Hindus. He said that Indian government’s description of the Punjab problem as a law and order issue revealed its ignorance. He said that the government was living in a fool’s paradise if it thought that it could finish militancy by killing Sikh youths in greater numbers. Unless the Sikh psyche was satisfied the problem in Punjab would persist.
He condemned the exploitation of Punjab’s natural wealth by the: Indian government which, he said was contrary to all national and international laws. Referring to the Sikh struggle, the Akali leader said that the Sikhs were far removed from their goal because no ideologically-oriented struggle could emerge which should be run in accordance with the Sikh principles.
