AMRITSAR: The Akali Dal (Manjit) has held the SGP€ president, Gurcharan Singh Tohra responsible for the “utter failure” of the morcha in protest against the sacrilege of an ‘Akhand path’ at Gujjarwal and advised him to resign his post on “moral” grounds.
In a joint statement, here on Nov.15, the senior vice-president, Lakhbir Singh Dhillon and Balwinder Singh Khojkipur and two general secretaries, Harminder Singh Gill and Balwinder Singh Khojkipur alleged that Tohra was instrumental in launching this morcha just to retain president ship of the SGPC and that was why he had advanced the date of annual election of the SGPC office bearers by one month. He has not issued any statement in favor of the morcha after his reelection as president on Oct.31. The failure of the morcha has proved that the Sikhs were not in favor of the present SGPC leadership and functioning.
Alleging Tohra has denigrated the prestige of the entire Sikh community, they said that failure of the morcha would cause embarrassment to the Sikhs all over the world. Tohra should atone for denigrating the entire Sikh community for the past 14 years.
They demanded fresh elections to the general house of the SGPC in order to get rid from the traditional Akali leadership.
