MADRAS: Tamil Nadu assembly speaker Dr Tamizhkudimagan Friday said he was consulting legal opinion as he wished to resign from his post in protest against the dismissal of the DMK government.
The constitution came in the way of his wish as it stipulated that if the assembly is dissolved the speaker shall not vacate his office till immediately before the first meeting of the assembly after dissolution he told reporters here.
Dr. Tamizhkudimagan said the constitution was not clear on who should accept the speaker’s resignation
He said democracy had been throttled and buried by dismissing the duly elected DMK government without the report of the governor The president had made use of the provision (the words or Otherwise) available in the constitution and once he had heard of this he did not-want to continue in office Dr Tamizhkudimagan said.
By this action the centre had tarred the face of the people who had elected the government for full five years he said.
