CHANDIGARH (PTI): Five members of two families including the mother sister and brother-in-law of a central intelligence agency (CIA) inspector and two militants were among the seven people killed in the Northern Indian state of Punjab. A superintendent of police (SP) and a DSP escaped unhurt when militants threw stick bombs at their vehicles near Lohara village Militants went to the house of CIA inspector Sukhwinder Singh who is posted at Gurdaspur in But ala village and shot dead his mother sister and brother in law in Majitha police district they also set the house a fire before fleeing.

In another incident two members of a family were shot dead by militants in Beas village in Majitha police district. The victims were identified as Sangara Singh and his daughter in-law Preet Kaur. An unidentified militant was killed in an encounter with the police patrol party near Dal Singhwala village in Faridkot district police said. One ak-47 rifle two magazines and some cartridges were recovered from the scene the police claimed to have shot dead one of the militants who had earlier killed a civilian and a constable and injured two others near Shing Daud village in Sangrur district. The S P (Operation) Sangrur was also injured in the encounter.
