AMRITSAR, Punjab, India:Dec. 25, Reuter: Police and freedom fighters fought a gun battle on Christmas Day in a village in the northern state of Punjab, leaving two freedom fighters and a policeman dead,

Avtar Singh Rupwali, a leader of the Khalistan Commando Force who had an 8,000 dollar reward offered for his capture and another force member were shot dead when police patrol confronted them in Shakoopur village in Gurdaspur district, police said.

A policeman who was injured when the freedom fighters fired at the patrol died later in hospital.

Earlier, a body was found outside the Golden Temple which police said was that of Mohinder Singh who was said to be a police informer.
