CHANDIGARH: A top militant was among 24 people killed May 20.
Bapu Singh Canadian Lt. Gen of Bhindranwale Tigers Force of Khalistan (Manochahal group) was killed in a fierce encounter with security forces near village Farangipur in Amritsar district. Two securitymen were also killed in the encounter.
The army was called to assist security forces during the encounter in which a senior police official was also injured.
According to a report from Amritsar a police party raided a farm house in Farangipur village of Bhikiwind area on an up off that some militants were hiding there.
The militants opened fire killing two policemen on the spot and injuring the deputy superintendent of police seriously. One militant identified as Canadian of “KCF” (Jaffarwal group) was also killed in the encounter.
In a different incident a gunmen of a bank was shot dead near village Nahera in Patiala district while a Pakistani intruder was killed in Jalalabad sector of Indo-Pak border.

Two unidentified bullet-ridden and high decomposed bodies were recovered from village Akalgarh in Majitha police district Thursday. Ten armed men entered the house of Balwant Singh a CPI leader in village Chela in Amritsar district and opened fire killing him eight members of his family and three gunmen provided to him on the SpoL.
Those killed were identified as his wife Paramjit Kaur brother Sukhwant Singh daughter Paramjit Kaur Inder Kaur Surinder Kaur Gudu Bindu and Sukhwant Kaur.
The gunmen were identified as Sukha Jagguand Surinder Singh all special police officers (SPOS)
In another attack three members of a family at Ratta village in Gurdaspur district were killed.
The victims were kidnapped and later shot dead on the outskirt of the village. They were identified as Banta Singh his sons Paramjit Singh and Santokh Singh
Militants also attacked a patrol party near Barpal village in Majitha police district and shot dead a constable Harmesh Singh and a civilian Shinder Singh.
