STOCKTON, Ca. World Sikh News received a threat to blow up its office for using the term Sikh freedom fighters. The threat was conveyed over the phone to the Editor by the correspondent of India West, Mr. Vincent Digirolama. An anonymous caller told Mr. Vincent to stop using the term freedom fighters for Sikh “terrorists” otherwise the newspaper office would be blown up, Since India West does not use the expression freedom fighters for Sikhs, Mr. Vincent called World Sikh News office and conveyed to the Editor the threat which he thought was actually intended for World Sikh News. The Editor thanked him for his concern and remarked that if the threat was to blow up the office for using the expression “freedom fighters”, then, it was not difficult to identify the quarters from which the threat could emanate.
The Editor told Mr. Vincent that it did not require a scholarly, study of logic to conclude that only those quarters would object to the expression as were directly affected by it. Punjab today was an enslaved land and Sikh lovers of Liberty are up against the occupation forces and had vowed to die for freedom. Every Sikh was living under a constant threat of extermination, World Sikh News, being a representative Sikh establishment, was naturally a greater target.
The management informed the Stockton police authorities about the threat, Police officials visited the newspaper office and confirmed the story from Mr. Vincent.
