Ceres : Staying in school is one of the most important decisions you make in your lifetime. This one decision, of staying in school, can either lead you to a life of richness or poorness, Richness, meaning of money and of knowledge. By staying in school, you can achieve a gift that no one can ever take away from you, as Benjamin Franklin stated above.

Last year there was an incident that happened in my life. My older sister kept telling me that I should read classics, she kept saying that they will help me a lot in the future; however, I kept putting it off as much as I could, I was always too busy playing softball, volleyball, or reading romance novels. Because I stayed in school, I was forced to read some classics for English class. I realized that I actually enjoyed reading them, so now I find myself reading some of those books for my own pleasure. I know now that I never would have realized this if  hadn’t stayed in school.

I understand that by staying in school, I will receive a good education which can lead me to an excellent career; however, what most people do not realize is that there is more to getting an education than just getting a good job and earning a six-figure income, What I’m trying to say is that by staying in school and developing knowledge that will never escape my head, | have in me something that is extremely special. Whenever I] am feeling down or even happy, I can look inside my head and find some sort of idea, thing, or feeling, L learned by staying in school, that will help me with my situation.

School isn’t only made up of studying, it is also about making memories, too. In the future, when you are feeling alone, you can always think back to the memones of prom, graduation, cramming for finals, and rallies. You can even remember the good times you had with your friends. Think, if you don’t stay in school, you would not have all these great memories to look back on.

It is important for you to stay in school so you could make something of your life and be proud of overcoming one of life’s hardest obstacles. I know there are times when you can feel like quitting or dropping out of school; however, you just have to think of where school can lead you. Dropping out of school will only lead you to McDonald’s or Taco Bell, as my dad always said. By staying in school you can get motivated to further your education. You will earn a successful career and a wonderful life, which will stay with you for an eternity.

Twelve-year-old Raj Purewal , daughter of Harjit and Kulwant Purewal of Ceres topped 24 other finalists as old as 16 to earn a $1,000 scholar ship as grand prize winner in Gottschalks back-to school creative writing contest.

The essay contest on “The importance of staying in school” drew hundreds of entries from throughout California, Oregon and Washington.
