CHANDIGARH: There has been no new threat of the flood situation getting accentuated. There has been a welcome letup in rain for more than 10 days. KAPURTHALA The district administration has received a grant of Rs 50 lakh from the state government which is being disbursed among the flood victims of the district. The flood situation is fast improving as the water level in Beas river has receded.

He said that relief camps ‘had been set up at Sultanpur Lodhi, Mundi Maur village, Talwandi, Chaudhrian and Phagwara. About 2,700 people have taken shelter in these camps. The floods have effected a population of 75,000 in 393 villages. The floods have taken the lives of 10 persons, perished 117 animals and damaged 4,198 houses.

Atma Singh, a former Development Minister and patron of Akali Dal (Badal) said that cooked food and other eatables are being supplied to the flood effected peoples of Sultanpur Lodhi Subdivision from a relief camp setup in Gurdwara Ber Sahib. He appealed to the peoples of the state to help the flood victims generously, JALANDHAR Beant Singh, Chief Minister of Punjab announced that the government would order an inquiry into the working of the Drainage Department and the Ropar district administration which had failed to take steps to prevent the floods.

 LUDHIANA: The recent foods and rains are believed to have caused a loss of over Rs 22 crore in Ludhiana district.

The sub divisional town of Khanna, where 78 cattle feed factories were inundated in waist deep water, incurred a loss of Rs 3.5 crore Channy put the death toll in floods at 12.

He said initially 36,000 acre of agricultural land was reported as affected. About 11,000 acre of crops was still submerged under water.

Meanwhile, the District Red Cross volunteers led by Suraj Channy and comprising wives of all district officers and the hospital lady staff, on Monday, fanned Out in flood ravaged villages in Machhiwara area to the aid of the flood hit.

AMRITSAR: A joint meeting of members of Christian community from Punjab, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir belonging to Methodist Church, Seventh Day Adventist Church, Pentecostal Church, Roman Catholic Church and Church of North India discussed relief and rehabilitation of Christians affected by the recent unprecedented floods.

ROPAR: The Punjab Government has started plugging of all the breaches on war footing to restore normal traffic in the state. This was disclosed by Gulzar Singh, PWD Minister, and Punjab. He said that PWD department had been directed to repair all main roads on priority basis. The minister said that traffic on Ropar Chandigarh national highway would be restored by Monday evening for all types of vehicles except loaded trucks.
