MADRAS: In the wake of the blast in the Hindu Munnani office which killed two, including a Munnani activist, tension prevailed in several parts of the city with one person killed and petrol bombs thrown into a place of worship.
The Hindu Munnani office at Ayya Mudall Street in Chintadripet was blasted by a powerful bomb, killing two persons including the suspected bomber and injuring four others. Police identified one of the blast victims as Biule Ghunmugam (40), district organizing secretary of Munnani.
Prabhu (19) of Pudupot who was attacked with knives when he was walking through Labba Street in the same area.
Despite heavy police patrolling, some miscreants threw patrol bombs into a place of worship at Chintadripet, near the blasted office. A fire tender which rushed to the spot was prevented from reaching the place for about 15 minutes by some miscreants, on the intervention of senior police officials, the mob dispersed and the flames were put off. Another fire tender summoned to the spot could not reach there as some miscreants snatched its ignition key and vanished. With the key missing fire service personnel were stranded for about 15 minutes.
The Chief Minister, Ms. J. Jayalalitha, has directed the state Crime Branch CID to investigate the bomb blast.
