CANDIGARH, India: Nihang Tarna Dal, acting Chief, Baba Ajit Singh was shot and wounded at his headquarters in Puna village on Aug. 15. The assailants took away his carbine, stengun, rifle of his body guard and 50,000 rupees in cash. Baba was admitted to civil hospital at Amritsar, His condition was said to be out of danger. Police suspect the members of Sukhdev Singh Sakhira were involved in the attack, Baba was on the hit list of the gang and there was old enmity between Baba and the gang. The Sakhira gang had murdered his predecessor Baba Kahan Singh in Maharashtra last year, the police said that the gang suspected the hand of Baba in the murder of Sukhdev Singh Sakhira who was gunned down in May at Amritsar. Baba was provided by the ruling Akali Dal a security guard. S.S.P. of Amritsar suspects some of the members of Sakhira gang bad infiltrated into the Baba’s headquarters and managed to attack him. Mr. Kahlon said only two of the police guards were present on duty at the headquarters when the shooting took place. Even they were asleep. Action would be taken against the policemen who were absent from duty, he said. Meanwhile, S.S.P. Amritsar has suspended five policemen who were absent from the duty.
