NEW DELHI: Tripartite talks on the Bodo land issue will be held in the first week of January, an Assam government spokesman said here on Wednesday.
The Bodos, an ethnic group in the north-east Indian state of Assam, have been demanding an autonomous hill state, separate homeland in the name of Bodo land in the state.
The decision to hold the talks, involving the center, the Assam government and the Bodo representatives, was taken after Assam chief minister Hiteswar Saikia called on home minister S B Chavan. The chief minister also met prime minister P V Narasimha Rao.
The spokesman said Saikia discussed with the home minister the situation arising out of the unilateral cease-fire decision by the United Liberation Front of Assam.
The chief minister also discussed with Chavan the demand for an autonomous hill state by the autonomous state demand committee (ASDCO and the Bodo land issue.
