NEW DELHI: The Congress dissident leader, N.D. Tiwari, seems to have given a golden opportunity to his rivals within the Government to raise his surveillance level to a new high.
Well placed sources in the Home Ministry indicated that the Government plan to order an inquiry to be headed by Punjab police chief, K.P.S. Gill, is linked to it. Tiwari himself has expressed annoyance at the move saying that it was uncalled for and the matter be treated as closed.
Not for the Government though, which is treating it as the chance to put the movements of Tiwari, now regarded openly as a dissident, under a microscope.
According to sources, since the scope ritzy of the inquiry includes possible seculars, the chances of some of his ‘favorite’ security men being removed is very high. They will be replaced by a new set of security men and the numbers of those are likely to be increased.
Sources also indicated that the ultimate fall-out of this incident could be that Tiwari’s visitors are going to closely screened and his movements monitored closely, ostensibly to cut out on all potential security lapses. Since the Gajraula episode involves the question of security movement as to how Tiwari’s cavalcade reached that place without any formal information to the control room here, chances of closer wireless check is also not being ruled out.
According to ministry sources, Gill is submitting his report within a week.
