CHANDIGARH: India’s captain Pargat ‘Singh will lead the Surjit Hockey Club in the California Hockey Tournament which this year will be held from May 27 to June 3.

Pargat Singh who is also a vice-president of the Surjit Singh Memorial Hockey Society will lead a strong 16-member team. It will however be a 22-member contingent as the team will be accompanied by six officials also.

This was disclosed here in an informal chat by Mr Jagjit Puri Secretary of the society. The Surjit Club was the winners of the tournament last year.

According to Mr Puri the team on its way back will also play matches in Singapore Bangkok (Thailand) and Hong Kong.

Besides an elite German team will be the star attraction at this year’s All-India Surjit Singh Memorial Hockey Tournament the dates for which have been finalised. The competition this time will be held from November9 to 20 Besides the German team which might emerge as the crowd pulling outfit two teams from Pakistan and one each from Malaysia Kenya Singapore and Yugoslavia will also participate.
