NEW DELHI, India: The Supreme Court has stayed the orders of Punjab and Haryana High Court granting bail to Tarsem Singh and Manjit Singh two suspected militants alleged to have made unsuccessful attempt on the life of J.F. Ribeiro, D.G.P.
Justice B.C. Ray and Justice K.K. Jaite after hearing the Counsel representing the state of Punjab stayed the judgment of Punjab and Haryana High Court for granting bail to the two accused now lodged in Sangrur Jail. The High Court by its January 4 order, had accepted the plea of two accused against the order of the special judge who had earlier rejected their application for bail. The high court held that the cases of Tarsem Singh and Manjit Singh are similar to those of Kulwant Singh who had been granted bail.
In the Supreme Court, the Counsel for the State government contended the high court had wrongly accepted the plea that both the cases were similar.
