WASHINGTON: The United States accepted the Indian stand that there can be no negotiations with US demands on trade and services under unilateral U.S legislation while the same issues are under negotiation in a multilateral context, dropped the idea of retaliation under Super 301, and agreed to take the issues to the Uruguay round under the Gatt.

US trade representative officials told the press at a special briefing that the Super 301 process against India is now terminated.

However, US trade representative Carla Hills and other US TR officials stressed that the issues are by no means dead and that the US. Reserves to itself the right under its regular trade act to consider retaliation if the Uruguay round does not give the U.S. satisfaction.
