Eleven other Akalis belonging to other factions of the Akali Dal were also set free at Kapurthala along with him.

Talking to UNI shortly after his release, Sukhjinder Singh said arrests of Akali leaders by the Beant Singh government only indicated that the Chief Minister had become “panicky” and was not sure of his “political stability.” He said Beant Singh does not draw support from Punjab but stands on crutches provided by Delhi.” Manjit Singh was released from the city Kotwali police station here in the evening, according to UNI.

Clarifying an earlier report regarding the arrest of Manjit Singh, the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Hardeep Singh Dhillon said that the Akali leader had not been arrested buthad been roundup for questioning on certain specific information. Manjit Singh, after being grilled by police officials at the police station, was let-off.
