LUDHIANA: An annual meeting of the governing council of Punjab Human Rights Organization here dropped Mr. A.S. Bains from the organization.

The PHRO general secretary Mr. DSS. Gill in a press release explained that Mr. Bains had disqualified himself as a member of the organization owing to his recent action in satisfying his parliamentary ambition. Mr. Bains had been hobnobbing with the discredited politicians on the eve of the Lok Sabha elections. Evidently, he could not arrest his old tendency which surfaced first in May 1987 when he had joined the Intelligence Bureau (1.B.) sponsored Jain Munni Darshan Singh Ragi talks. The Governing Council examined in depth Mr. Bains role and unanimously decided to remove him from the PHRO.

The Council appointed Mr. Sukhdey Singh as President while Dr. Gurbachan Singh Mavi, Dr. (Mrs.) Manjit Kaur Dhillon and Mr. Mohinder Singh Jawanda were appointed Vice President.

Mr. DS. Gill was reappointed general secretary. Mr. Gurbhajan. Singh Gill, Dr. Rajinder Pal Singh, Mohinder Singh Grewal, Mr. Gurcharan Singh Bal, Mr. Bhupinder Singh Somal, and Mr. Jatinder Singh Sandhu were made secretaries.

In a resolution the council regretted that repression continued in Punjab despite the installation of a Janata Dal government at the center which claimed to follow the rule of law.

The council decided to represent to the government of India and the U.S, administration to drop extradition against Mr. Ranjit Singh Gill and Sukhminder Singh Sandhu because the designated court of Poona rejected the conspiracy theory canvassed by the prosecution in the General Vaidya murder case. LONDON: The JKLF U.K. Branch, has criticized the kidnaping of Rubiya Sayeed and appealed to the kidnapers to free her immediately.

Shabir Choudhry, General Secretary, JKLF (U.K) in a statement issued here said, “our struggle is against the forces of occupation and not against civilians. Such acts would isolate us from masses without whose support our struggle would become meaningless.”

He said, “Dr. Rubiya is our sister. Brothers never threaten to kill their sisters. They sacrifice own lives to protect their sisters.

Choudhry said he was confident that no harm would be caused to Dr. Rubiya and that she would be released immediately are wanted by the Indian Government on the ground of their involvement in the alleged conspiracy.

The Council earlier paid homage to three of its members, S. Baldev Singh Bindra Advocate, S. Harjinder Singh Mangat and S. Manmohan Singh Grewal who died recently.
