KHARTOUM,SUDAN: A senior Sudanese official denied on Sunday that his country was planning to let Iranian warships use Port Sudan as a base on the Red Sea.
Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak said Wednesday he had received information on the plan, which he said would threaten Egypt.
Omar Yousef Beridu, first undersecretary at Sudan’s Foreign Ministry summoned an Egyptian diplomat Sunday and expressed Sudan’s “astonishment and anxiety” about Mubarak’s comments. Bendu said Mubarak’s information was false.
