CHICAGO, Illinois: The Sikh Religious Society of Chicago successfully organized the 1987 annual summer Sikh Youth Gurbani Camp from August 16 to August 22 at camp Rienghburg Forest Preserves in Illinois. Nearly eighty young Sikh boys and girls from Illinois, Wisconsin, Indiana, St. Louis and New Orleans attended the camp at a minimum cost.

 A handbook guide of camp program including “Shabads”, “Ardas” and other daily recited Gurbani was provided to all the students. Daily Sikh religious rituals, recitation and understanding of Gurbani, singing Shabad Kirtan with harmonium and table, reading, writing, and speaking Gurumukhi language, gidda and bangra dance practice, evening sports, after dinner lectures on Sikh history by guest speakers and group discussions on current topics kept the children fully occupied all week. Amolakh Singh distributed prizes after the gidda. In one week’s togetherness at the camp the children learned a lot and gained lifelong friends. The following day Palatine Gurdwara congregation activities were enriched by the camp children’s participation, pleasing everyone, who thanks to Bhai Mohinderjit Singh Ji.
