NEW DELHLI: Police lobbed teargas shells and resorted to baton charge to disperse unruly BJP workers indifferent parts of the capital during a daylong Delhi Bandh Tuesday which paralyzed normal life in Delhi.
Over 600 people were arrested during the day from different parts of the city, on charges of noting and arson, while about 500 were taken into custody since last night as a preventive measure, police said.
About 1000 protesters blocked a railway track between Dayabasati and Azadpur stations in North Delhi for four hours. A railway spokesman said the agitators had placed wooden sleepers on the tracks. Rail traffic was restored after police dispersed the protesters by resorting to a mild lathi charge.
