MOGA: Six militants were among 11 people killed while the brother of a senior police officer was kidnapped by the militants in the Punjab since Thursday night.

Nineteen militants were nabbed in the adjoining state of Haryana while seven were arrested in Punjab.

A report from Amritsar said that two hardcore militants were killed during a intergang clash in village Ghariala. One of them was identified as Lakha Singh.

Mukhtiar Singh a brother of the SSP of Sangrur S S Bhullar was kidnapped from his house in village Nihalke in Ferozepur district.

He is the sixth person to be abducted by the militants who are demanding the release of militant Madha Singh and his associate Avtar Singh Laddo arrested in Maharashtra in connection with the abortive attempt to kidnap the daughter of union home minister S$ B Chavan recently.

Militants shot dead two persons identified as Jasbir Singh and Ajit Singh in Dhaman village of Batala district.

Two others Mann Singh and Swaran Singh were shot dead by militants in village Kaleke in Sangrur district and Mehsampura in Majitha district respectively police said here

Two militants were gunned down in an encounter in the Veltoha police station area of Tarn Taran district police said here.

Mukhtiar Singh is the sixth person to have been kidnapped by militants for the release of Madha Singh and his associate. Earlier relatives of DGP Punjab D S Mangal the DIG BSF MS Sandhu former union home minister Buta Singh and two brothers of Bombay Police commissioner have been kidnapped from Sangrur and Ludhiana districts.

Militants also kidnapped three others from Ferozepur and Bhatinda districts and demanded ransom from them police said.

Amar Dass son of a shopkeeper and his servant Purshotam Dass were kidnapped from Basti Macchian in Ferozepur district while a trader Babu Singh was kidnapped from village Maharaj in Bhatinda district police said.

Two suspected militants Jagdev Singh and Aviar Singh were gunned down by their accomplices near village Raratgarh in Patiala district and near village Daur in Ludhiana district respectively. Both were killed allegedly as a result of intergang rivalries police said.

Seven suspected militants were arrested with arms and ammunition from Jalandhar Bhatinda Tam Taran and Batala districts police said here.

Meanwhile security for BJP leaders in Haryana has been strengthened with immediate effect following the killing of Panipat unit chief of the party Dr.Mahender Ranjan on Wednesday night.
