LAHORE, PAKISTAN, REUTER — A penalty six minutes from time helped India draw 11 with Pakistan in the fourth hockey test on Sunday.
Olympic champions Pakistan, trailing the six match series 21, took a first half lead when Qazi Mohib converted a penalty stroke in the 32nd minute. It was awarded because Ashok Kumar had pulled down Mohib’s goal bound shot from above his head,
But Surjit Kumar leveled with his spot shot after M.P. Singh had caught Mohib’s foot on the goalline with a stinging shot.
Feroze initiated a neat move in the ninth minute and gave a good pass to Tariq Sheikh but Indian goalkeeper Mare Patterson brought off a good save,
Playing on slow and heavy national stadium artificial turf, India settled down quickly and forced a penalty corner in the 14th minute. But right back Ashok Kumar shot wide.
India’s right wing Gundeep Kumar received a nasty cut on his forehead after he was struck by left half Naeem Akhtar.
Pakistan were without their regular inside left Zahid Sharif and played Khalid Hamid and Wasim Feroze on the left flank.
India made three changes, resting goalkeeper Rajinder Singh Rawat, skipper and right half M.M. Somaya and center forward Balwinder Singh.
GWALIOR, INDIA,REUTER — Full back Qaxi Mohib struck two goals as Olympic hockey champions Pakistan beat India 21 on Friday to win their first. Game in three matches of a friendly series between the perennial rivals.
The Pakistani victory ended a run of four consecutive defeats by India who took the first two games of the six match series, a warm up event for the Seoul Olympics next Month.
Pakistan, who now trail 21 in the series, have the advantage of playing at home in the last three games of the event.
Mohib silenced the 12,000 Indian crowds in the eighth minute, when he drove a fierce shot into the roof of the net, which took a deflection off a defender’s stick.
He then stretched the Pakistani lead in the 42nd minute with an ankle high shot from a penalty corner.
