NEW DELHI, India: The split in the A.I.C.C. (S) formalized with the anti-merger group repudiating the leadership of Mr. Shard Pawar, suspending him from the party by a resolution and electing Mr. Sarat Chander Sinha the former Assam Chief Minister as the acting party Chief, Besides Mr. Pawar A.I.C.C. (S) General Secretary, Mrs. Ambika Soni, Mr. Dharm Vir Sinha and Mr. Suresh Kalmali, M.P., have also been suspended from the primary membership of the party. The days swift dramatic development followed the suspension by Mr. Pawar of members of the Party’s Parliamentary group, Mr. K.P. Unikrishan and Mr. B. Kishore Chander Dev, both General Secretaries, Mr. Pawar hit back by getting the Working Committee to expel from the Party not only Mr. Uniktishana and Mr. Kishore ‘Chander Dev but also Mr. Sarat Chander Sinha with immediate effect, Mr. Pawar later said at a news conference that the Working Committee of the Congress (S) discussed Congress(I) General Secretary, G.K. Moopanar’s appeal for unity among all Congress-men and said that by and large all the Working Committee members favored the Party’s merger.
