CHANDIGARH   (PTI): Six militants were among nine people killed while 16 people, including nine security men, were injured in separate incidents in the Indian state of Punjab.

Superintendent of police (detective), Gurdial Singh Dhillon, escaped unhurt when militants attacked a police party near Jayanti pur village in Majitha district July 28.

Three unidentified militants were killed in an encounter with security forces in Mand area of Tarn Taran district Wednesday. Some arms and ammunition were recovered from the encounter site. Eight security men, including two of assistant sub-inspector (ASI) rank and four constables were injured in a landmine explosion near Sathiali village in Gurdaspur district early Wednesday.

In another blast near a park in Ludhiana city Tuesday night, five civilians were injured, a police patrol, was the target of attack.

Militant Hari Singh was killed in an encounter in Alluwa village of Tarn Taran police district while a Sikh priest, Balbir Singh, was killed in crossfire.

Gunmen shot dead one Bawa Singh in Bhomma village of Batala police district while an unidentified bullet-riddled body was recovered from Vallah village of Amritsar district.
