CHRISTCHURCH: India has asked for Dilip Vengsarkar to reinforce their batting, according to cricket manager Bishen Singh Bedi here on Feb 4th,
“Our need is all the moire since Navjot Singh Sidhu, who fractured his knuckles, will be out of play for at least one month,” said Bedi a former skipper.
Bedi said he had conveyed his and the team’s decision to selection committee chairman, Raj Singh Durgapur.
“I impressed upon Raj Singh that Veng‘-sarkar’s presence before the second test begins is important and he should be sent immediately,” Bedi said.
Bedi was disappointed with India’s poor batting. “Our batsmen played without much application and will to stay at the wicket,” he said.
Indian opener Navjot Sidhu Sunday suffered the injury when hit by a rising Danny Morrison delivery in the first innings against Australian.
