WASHINGTON: Indian foreign secretary S.K Singh met U.S. Congressman Stephen Solarz and apprised him about the situation in northern Indian border state of Jammu and Kashmir.
Solarz has taken a special interest in the subcontinent and has recently visited both India and Pakistan.
Observers here note that a sea change has taken place in the U.S. attitude towards the Indian subcontinent. This started with the can-cun meeting between former U.S. President Reagan and late Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi.
Besides U.S. has also appreciated the smooth transfer of power from Rajiv Gandhi to Prime Minister VP Singh after the November elections.
With this, a real understanding has grown between the U.S. and India and mutual respect for each other’s vital interests.
