Prof Jean Flechon, researcher in the Laboratory of Physics of Metallic Deposits, France, incollabo ration with Mr Jean Comerse, an industrialist, has developed a new type of solar refrigerator. The new thing about this is that it uses a mixture of calcium chloride and ammonia for cooling. The other solar refrigerators worked on cither petrol or solar cell energy. According to Mr Comerse, “as the petrol is always used for other purposes and the solar receivers are too fragile, they are not resistant to major storms.”
The solar energy collected during the day, with a cylinder parabolic system enables evaporation of ammonia and this gaseous ammonia on expanding, cools at night.
