BRATISLAVA, SLOVAKIA: Thousands of panicky Slovaks, confused over the fate of their money in the new separate Slovak Republic, rushed to banks Jan11 to either deposit Czechoslovak bank notes or change them into Western currency.
Monday’s activity followed Reports last week that the central bank of the richer, more populous Czech Republic had begun stamping Czechoslovak bank notes in preparation for a currency split.
