NEW DELHI: Janata Party is pate in the Punjab elections scheduled to be held on February 19.
According to indications the former Prime Minister Chandra Shekhar is not in favor of participation in the elections in view of the boycott by the Akalis. Chandra Shekhar held consultations in this regard with his party colleagues Mulayam Singh Yadav former UP Chief Minister Dr. Subramaniam Swamy and others.
In fact he had sought the views of the Punjab unit of the party some time ago which also opined that if the Akalis stuck to their decision the poll would be meaningless Capt. Vikram Singh SatPal Kapoor and several others also met Chandra Shekhar. A final decision however will be taken in a day or two. The former Prime Minister also feels that the government should have ensured the participation of the Akalis.
Meanwhile Umrao Singh a former Revenue Minister of Punjab Tuesday called upon various trade unions of Punjab Government employees to withdraw their call for boycotting elections duty in the tae
Umrao Singh said here Tuesday that the proposed boycott would subvert the process of restoration of a democratic government in the state and serve the interests of the militants.
