JAMMU: The Indian governor of Kashmir state Girish Saxena has said that Pakistan may try to send more sophisticated arms to militants in Kashmir to give fillip to what India calls subversive activities in Kashmir with the opening of mountain passes.
‘But we are fully prepared to meet the challenges’ Saxena said when asked about the possibility of a spurt in militant activity in the valley in the near future.
The governor told PTI that it was possible that with the melting of snow at mountain passes along the line of actual control Pakistan might start sending trained men into the state.
He said Pakistan’s entire services intelligence (ISI): and army were coordinating and monitoring actions between pro Pak militant outfits in the valley.
The ISI is even putting pressure on People’s League (Farooq Rehmani faction) and Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (IKLF) to adopt pro. Pak posture in challenging the occupation of the state by India.
In reply to a question on the possibility of war between India and Pakistan the governor said ‘one may think of war to deal with this low cost war waged by Pakistan only if the situation goes beyond a tolerable point.
Saxena said the security forces in Kashmir have withstood the ground and have not allowed the situation to change materially in favor of militants. “The militants have so far not succeeded in bringing the situation nearer to their objective despite the fact that they are supported by an external power and have tremendous capability to strike” he said.
Admitting the situation is till “messy” and ‘grim’ in Kashmir valley Saxena said ‘we have been able to contain the situation on ground which is no less an achievement in a difficult situation like that in Kashmir’.
Denying claims in some newspapers that the government had surrendered on the issue and release of five hardcore militants as demanded by ‘Mrs Nahida’s kidnappers Saxena ‘said only one militant was ‘released on “one month’s parole.
