Sir,
The Siropa, the Sikh robe of Honor being given to Dr LM Singhvi, High Commissioner of India to Britain, for no obvious reasons on behalf of the gurdwaras Delhi by an one entity in a picture which appeared in India Abroad on Feb.14, 1992 should be cause of concern to all responsible Sikhs and they should write a leters of protest to the Akal Takhat, in Amritsar, Punjab.”
The irony might be that the: gurdwara committee of Delhi itself perhaps is being controlled by the Congress and the central government and not by the Sikhs, The Sikh in picture including the management of the committee should be sacked for making a mockery of the Siropa.” Even more insulting is the fact, that a picture of Guru Nanak Dev jee the founder of Sikh religion is being held behind Singhvi back by a shaven person in turban. Our guru’s picture should not be allowed to become an object of such obscene displays again. Did the overwhelming Sikh community of Delhi approve of this act? Obviously not, because no one dare defy the rulers of Delhi or else they might face the wrath of the government whose agents will list them as terrorists and eliminate or cause economic ruin to them,
Such acts of sacrilege must stop. Let us maintain the dignity of siropa and let it be reserved for the truly deserving people.
You can obviously see the political mileage which Singhvi is going to get out of this affair in his life and how much the rulers in Delhi must be rejoicing. By giving Siropa to people who have not served the Sikh cause in any way and specially during times when scores of young Sikhs are being eliminated every week in Punjab by the order of Delhi rulers, we are only insulting the past truly deserving recipients of one (of the most honorable awards of the Sikh nation,
Harbir Singh
