NEW DELHI: Indian Premier VP Singh Wednesday warned Pakistan of the consequences. of fomenting trouble in Kashmir and Punjab and carrying out a “systematic disinformation campaign,” saying India has the capacity to face these challenges now,” as it had faced these in the past. “Nothing will ever deter us from our commitment to the basic principles of democracy, secularism and communal harmony. We shall defend our unity and integrity at any cost. We shall not allow the nefarious designs from any quarter to succeed,” he said while inaugurating the 20th annual conference of state ministers of information and cinematography, here.

The conference was preceded by a two day meeting of state information secretaries.

Singh said the National Front government would suitable amend the official secrets act so that the people, “have increased access to information.”

This, he said, was in tune with the government’s firm commitment to “transparent” functioning.
