LOS ANGELES: The Sikhs joined hands with humanitarian groups to serve victims of the LA riots for the past two weeks. A “sewa Jatha was organized at Guru Nanak Gurdwara, Buena Park, CA. They served refreshments to clean up crews and riot affected people, Afterwards they joined a group organized by actor/director Edward Olmos. Several hundred volunteers formed a large circle representing blacks, whites, yellow and browns and numerous nationalities. Representatives from different communities made speeches to unite and create harmony and _ understanding. Dr.Harbans Singh Sraon spoke on unity of human race. He translated Guru Gobind Singhs philosophy “manas ki jaat sabhe eke pahichanabo.” He reiterated that all of us belong to one race that is the human race.

The Sikhs participated from the very first. Similarly other Gurdwaras such Guru Ram Das, Lankersheim and Vermont organized to serve the victims, and efforts continue.
