CHICAGO: The Sikhs of Chicago area joined the other Asian communities in organizing and celebrating the Asian Community Festival in Chicago on 2nd, 3rd and 4th September 1989. The Sikhs in large numbers in Bhangra costumes walked along with their float during the colorful parade on Michigan street in downtown Chicago. Some Sikh businessmen also put up stalls which attracted many customers and visitors towards their business.

Later in the evening a Bhangra team organized by S. Rajinder Bir Singh Mago, the social secretary of the Sikh religious society Chicago, Presented a delightfully colorful Bhangra dance on the common Stage, which won the hearts of people and was acclaimed as one of the best performances of the day. It is worthy to mention that every other Asian community has also presented some cultural items on the stage.

The credit for getting recognition to the Sikh community from other Asian communities goes to S. Rajinder Bir Singh Mago. This hard working and soft spoken Youngman is striving hard to boost the image of the Sikh community in this area.
