Sikfis had attended the fund raising functions of the mayor elect in large numbers whereas, according to a New York ethnic tabloid the Indian community had supported Richard Guillaini: The community was prominent at a fund raising diner by the “Asian ‘Americans for David Dinins” in the honor of the Democratic Mayor elect on October 18.

As David Dinkins addressed the fund raising dinner, he was flanked by a number of Asian community leaders who included Jagjit Singh Mangat, the President of Sikh Cultural Society and Inder jit Singh, who was a member of his finance committee since the beginning of the campaign.

A number of Sikhs celebrating the birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev Ji, the founder of Sikhism, at the Sikh cultural Society told the WSN that they hoped that the Mayor elect would come to the Gurdwara and join the congregation, or participate in the communities functions.
