WASHINGTON: Although the World Sikh News has followed the story of the temple/mosque problem at Ayodhya, the intent has been to point out that India’s Hindu led govt is again using a religious site as a stepping stone to divide its citizens and suppress their religion,

It would be unlikely that Sikhs would be devotees of Sri Ram a Hindu deity since the basis of Sikhism is monotheistic.

The International Sikh Secretariat has taken issue with a story and photos published in the Aug.15,92 issue of the “India Times.” Seeing this as yet another example of state sponsored propaganda, the spokesman says“*The Sikh Nation is proud of their Religion and are not Hindus and have never been devotee of Sri Ram Chander nor of any other Hindu Sect or group. In fact Sikhism does not believe any groupism or Sectarianism what so ever and Sikh participation in the building of this Temple is very unlikely if not impossible. ‘The Sikhs have since long been misrepresented as “Terrorists”, Malicious propaganda against us is carried out continuously and our people ill-treated and Human Rights taken away by force,

It is high time that the Indian Govt through its missions in the United States of America and through its channels refrained from misrepresenting the Sikhs and our Religion so as to sugarcoat the bitter pill that is the Punjab problem in India.”
